Minsk Army Recruits Census 1827

This is the another index of army recruits from Minsk district as compiled on December 28, 1827.

Community notices that out of people recorded in the two previous lists only 60 people were found and only 30 of them were accepted by authorities as recruits. Thus once again, new list of people need to be appointed from local residents. This time the list is quite small though.

Minsk district army recruits in 1827 - part 2

Minsk Army Recruits Census 1827

This is the another index of army recruits from Minsk district as compiled on December 6, 1827.

This is the follow up document to original list compiled in November 1827. Community notes that many people recorded in November list could not be found by any available means. Of these that were found onlly 8 people ended up being accepted as recruits by authorities. Community notes that this can cause government penalties onto community for not executing government order of finding recruits on time. Therefore at this time (December 14) another group of people is to be appointed as army recruits from local bourgeois.

Minsk district army recruits in 1827 - part 1

Minsk Army Recruits Census 1827

This is the index of army recruits from Minsk district as compiled on November 14, 1827.

This list was selected based on the government order by Minsk community together with representatives from Gorodok and Samokhvalovichi community.

Source: YIVO. Minsk Jewish Community Council, 1825-1917. Jewish conscription, 1827 September-1828 January. Part 1. https://archives.cjh.org/repositories/7/archival_objects/397693

These recruits come from 3 places: Minsk (and villages), Sloboda Komarovka and Gorodok.

One thing to note, not everyone listed here necessarily served in the army. This was an initial list of people eligible to serve in the army. This list was compiled by government's request. However since some of these individuals were ill, missing or unavailable for other reasons, trustees were elected from each community with the purpose of finding missing recruits and keep them together under observation until the time they were to be handed to authorities. Such elected trustees from Minsk were Tsod Gastovskiy, Khaim Romanov, Faitel Morgenshtern and Faibish Mordukhovich Kharlip. Trustees from Gorodok these were Evel Geselovich Khatsanov Simonovich Mitlitskiy and Leib-Mordukh Lipkovich. Trustees from From Samokhvalovichi were Zelman Meerovich Tov and Yuda Movshovich Vysokiy. In the meantime funds were collected from community to pay for upkeeping these recruits. Additionally there were 308 community members who signed their names in this document.
